Project Details
Admiral wanted to avoid the dry, corporate tone often tied to insurance and instead create a short, engaging video that explained Public Liability Insurance in under 60 seconds. The content needed to be simple, clear, and approachable, while still appealing to a broad audience of freelancers, tradespeople, contractors, and small business owners.
The creative direction focused on illustration and motion only, with no stock footage, supported by upbeat music and a friendly female voiceover. This gave the video a fresh, accessible feel that stood out from typical finance content.
At the heart of the story was “Liam the landscaper,” a relatable character whose experience showed how quickly everyday accidents can turn into expensive claims. His story was supported by other familiar scenarios, such as clients tripping or drinks spilling on equipment, ensuring the video felt relevant, practical, and memorable across different sectors.
The Outcome
I began with detailed storyboards, mapping each scenario against the client’s script to ensure the narrative flowed logically and visually. Every character and environment was designed in Illustrator, with clean, vector-based illustrations that could scale across platforms. Once approved, I animated the video in After Effects, layering in transitions that kept the pace lively without overwhelming the story.
To push the engagement further, I worked with a 3D camera setup to create depth and movement, making the explainer feel more immersive than a flat animation. Sound effects punctuated key moments, from a driveway crack to a bill dropping, while an upbeat track and AI-enhanced male voiceover tied everything together in a friendly, conversational tone.
The result was a professional yet approachable explainer video that simplified a complex product and positioned Admiral Business as a supportive, trustworthy partner for SMEs, freelancers, and contractors. It now lives on the Admiral Business website and can also be used across social platforms and YouTube to reach wider audiences.
